MKSBackup is a free front-end for common backup tools like Windows ntbackup, and it successor wbadmin, Linux tools like tar, but also popular ghettoVCB to backup Virtual Machine on VMware ESX(i) host.
MKSBackup is developed in Python and is available for Windows, Linux and other Un*x systems.
MKSBackup is driven by a command line interface and jobs are defined in an .INI file.
MKSBackup has a self install procedure to copy and download additional files (ghettoVCB), and configure a task in the Task Scheduler in Windows or setup an entry in the Cron on Linux hosts.
Its main feature is to send an email report including logfiles and additional hints like time, archive size or directory listing, that could give the user confidence about the status of the backup. Reports can sent to MagiKmon that can read the backup log to maintain detailed historic, generate graph and raise mail alerts when backup is failed or mail is missing for too long.
